What Get Married in NYC needed
A wedding directory and guide site for New York City: thousands of vendor listings across fifteen categories, and step-by-step guides from the marriage license to the reception, in English and Spanish.
What we did
Get Married in NYC is our own directory project, and it is the clearest example of what a directory site can be when it is built to help the people using it. Couples marrying in New York face two jobs at once: getting the license and ceremony right with the City Clerk, and finding the officiant, photographer, florist or venue for their date. The site handles both.
The guides walk a couple from the license appointment to the certificate, borough by borough, with the costs and rules dated and linked to the office that sets them, and more than sixty of them are written in both English and Spanish. Next to them sits a directory of thousands of wedding vendors across all five boroughs and the places within a couple of hours of Manhattan, organised into fifteen categories and searchable by where the wedding is.
Every listing page links back to the guides a couple needs next, so the directory and the writing feed each other instead of competing. The site is a fast, custom Next.js build with no directory plugin underneath, and every part of it, from the listings to the domain, is owned outright. We also designed its logo and built its newsletter signup.
